[T]his satirical little fairytale puts the mighty in their place.
All those who have watched the manoeuvring of the superpowers
with dread and boredom for so many years will rejoice in the
spectacle of their masters at the mercy of enforced benevolence.
This unaccustomed condition is imposed on the world's
decision-makers by a device developed by an unworldly Russian
scientist with the help of two ducks and a goose, and its
exercise gives rise to farce of hilarious dimensions.
In little more than 130 pages the whole machinery of
bureaucracy and corruption, of cynicism and naivety -- all the
components essential for international stone-walling -- are held
to a ridicule none the less searching for its light-heartedness.
The animals are as memorable as the human characters who romp
absurdly through its pages.
